Constituent Service Priorities

Streamlined Services

Each spring, Alderman Hopkins joins his staff and volunteers and surveys the streets, sidewalks, and alleys across the 2nd Ward. In addition to walking inspections, the surveyors knock on doors and talk to condo and property owners to identify infrastructure in need of repair in our neighborhoods. These Ward surveys have helped identify key infrastructure issues, reduce wait times on basic city service repairs, and help streamline city departments' ability to do their job.

Clear the Snow

Snow makes Chicago special but also makes for difficult and unsafe situations for many of our residents. That is why Alderman Hopkins established the volunteer-led Snow Patrol in 2016 to make sure 2nd Ward seniors and other residents who were not able to clear their sidewalks of snow were able to receive help. The program keeps our seniors safe from dangerous falls due to snow and ice and prevents them from being ticketed for not shoveling their walkways. It’s a great program, and in the next term, we’ll make it even better.

Modern Rat Abatement

Alderman Hopkins called for the 2nd Ward to be used as a pilot for dry-ice rodent abatement. With the program successfully tested at Streets & Sanitation garbage transfer centers this year, he will renew his push to bring dry-ice rodent abatement to combat the rat population in our ward.

Shredding and Electronics Recycling

Alderman Hopkins hosts regular shredding and electronics recycling drive-through events, allowing 2nd Ward residents to quickly and safely shred confidential documents, and recycle electronics in an environmentally-friendly manner. By popular demand, Alderman Hopkins will increase the number of free shredding and electronics recycling events available on both the west and east side of the ward during his second term.
